Job Description

VERTICA DATABASE ADMINISTRATION

Installing, Administering and monitoring vertica clusters on local and cloud (AWS) environments.

Maintaining and Providing support to the production and non production databases.

Performing fresh installations for vertica databases.

Auditing and Upgrading the vertica license as per requirements.

Maintaining daily backups and also performing adhoc backups as per requirements.

Manually recovering the database using latest backup during unclean shutdown.

Troubleshooting with Epochs to avoid data lag.

Tunning the slow running queries using Database designer and Service now.

Starting / Restarting the failed nodes from the cluster to maintain K-safety .

Managing the users for granting / revoking access .

Investigating and working on alerts related to production databases.

Working on Vertica Management Console / Pagerduty / Stackdriver for monitoring database health.

Performing Manual moveout and mergeout for improving the database performance.

Performing database migration from SQL to Vertica.

Reviewing the logs for unusual behaviour or any other issues.

Monitoring volume usage for disk and working on the same.

Keeping track of Unused, Corrupt projections and droppig the same to avoid uneccesary disk usage.

Gained experience of managing Databases like Mssql, Mysql, Vertica and Operating System such as Windows, Linux
