GENERAL INFORMATION
Job Title: Machine Learning Engineer
Linked to Role Title (GJFA): Service/Solution Design&Delivery

Reports to: Senior Data Scientist
Novartis is actively seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join our analytics team.
Position Purpose:
- The role encompasses the full life cycle- from design, implementation and rollout of the solutions.
- The mission is to solve operational and technical challenges in deploying/monitoring machine learning models.
Major Accountabilities:
- Collaborate in multi-functional teams to evaluate business activities, and then develop innovative and effective approaches to tackle teams analytics problems and communicate results and methodologies.
- Ability to initiate and drive projects from conception to completion with minimal guidance.
- Establishes scalable, efficient, automated solutions for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation. Works to translate prototypes into new products, services, and features and provide guidelines for large-scale implementation.
- Ability to build and fine tune algorithms that scale up from small-scale proof-of-concept stage to full production systems
- Brings the best software development practices to the data science team and helps them speed up their work
- Chooses best operational architecture together with devops team
- Looks constantly for performance improvement and decides which ML technologies will be used in production environment
- Ensures that data science code is maintainable, scalable, reproducible and de-buggable (focusing on OOD, Confidence models etc.)
- Excellent quantitative skills and the ability to tell a story using data.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- PhD/Masters. from top colleges, Computer Science or in a quantitative field.
- 2+ years in large data analysis.
- 2+ years' of experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, Scala), or deep learning libraries (e.g. tensorflow, pytorch), strong object oriented programming skills
- Expertise in atleast some visualization tools such as Streamlite, Qlikview, Dask, Tableau (but not limited to these) for designing insights is good to have.
- Expertise in container technologies Docker, Kubernetes
- Expertise in optimizing data science codes to run optimally on GPU/multicore
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- High ability to solve problems and to structure and simplify complex scenarios and implement and lead digital transformation change.
- Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work in a multiple stakeholder environment to embed advanced analytical models into business processes.
- Experience in building and launching machine learning models in production.
- Has decent functional knowledge in some of the business functions, such as manufacturing operations, supply chain, product quality, finance and commercial.
- Excellent written and good communication skills to influence others to take action
