Job Description
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS :
The candidate shall be responsible for identification of novel applications, process conceptualization, design and process optimization of reaction and separation processes for novel applications or improvement of existing processes using membrane separations, adsorptive separations and other mass transfer techniques for debottlenecking and revamping. The candidate shall also be responsible to develop DOPE (Design Output for Process Engineering) Package for proposal, projects and engineering. In summary, the candidate shall lead from concept to DOPE. The candidate will coordinate with Proprietary Products Development Group. The candidate will also be responsible for activities related to Technology Industry Interface (Marketing) and Licensing.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES : PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Concepts Development
- Process conceptualization and design, and process optimization of new process technology
- Liaison with Technology Industry Interface and Licensing department and System Sales & Proposals department to identify new application capabilities that will add value to the clients
- Liaising with clients to agree upon design basis, process concept / design schemes
- Process plant data validation using steady state simulations.
- Identifies materials, methods, equipment to improve product performance, reduce costs and improve technology
- Understanding of membranes, its performance and capabilities
- Technology Evaluation and Development
- Detailed planning and execution of feasibility and proof-of-concept studies focused primarily on membrane separation and adsorptive separation processes for solving industrial separation problems
- Optimize process technology from both CAPEX and OPEX point of view
- Perform technoeconomic analysis and compare i3 Nanotec s process technology to existing/conventional approaches and identify benefits and value proposition for i3 Nanotec s process technology
- Conducting Technology Gate Reviews
- Perform Hazard Identification (HAZID) and LOPA
- Compilation and interpretation of experimental data and drafting of technical reports
- Process controls development using dynamic simulations
- Coordination with control system vendor for control system engineering
- IP /Licensing
- Study the patentability of company developed technologies
- Identifies and analyzes competitors patented technologies
- Creating novel IP and participation in formulation of Company s IP strategy
- Perform process scale-up, technology commercialization, process licensing efforts and key corporate strategic decisions; increasing awareness of Company s technologies
- Ensure the protection of technical knowledge
- Assistance in Marketing studies
- DOPE and Support to Process Discipline
- Preparation of DOPE (Design output for Process Engineering) Package for pre-engineered systems, custom system projects and proposals
- Assistance to Process Engineering for preparation of PDP and review of PDP
- Review of critical process documents to verify its compliance to process guarantees
- Technology Demos
- Identifying need for new bench and pilot scale test systems and making specifications for these test systems
- Interface with sales in technology demos to clients
- Proposals
- Assistance to Technology Industry Interface Department in preparation of technical proposals for sponsored research funding
- Assistance to Sales functions in preparing technical proposal and defining performance guarantee protocols
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Department Management
- Identifying and implementing solutions, tools for improving the department productivity quick costing, templatized proposals and contracts etc.
- Planning and tracking of department budget including in-house and outsourced manpower, CAPEX, OPEX and CSR
- R&D projects progress monitoring
- Identify collaboration partners
- Identify and track issues and risks for smooth (productive, safe and information security incident free) functioning of department and related functions
- Assistance / Coordination with HR for resource acquisition and assistance in resource selection and handling department personnel issues
- Department Procedures and Quality
- Assistance in preparing and updating department processes and SOPs
- Capturing & Management of Department Knowledge lessons learnt, best practices etc.
- Assistance in keeping department databases updated and generate MIS reports as required
- Support Department Compliance & Audits
- M.Tech./M.S. or Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering with minimum 6-8 years experience in Specialty & Fine Chemical, Pharma, Biofuels (Distillery, Bio-diesel), Refining, Petrochemical Industry
- Strong academic background and fundamentals in chemical engineering and sciences. Bachelor s degree in chemical engineering from leading institutes like IITs, BITS PILANI, NITS S etc. Candidates in top 5-10% of the graduating class preferred. Advanced Degree from US or European Academic Institute of Repute preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years in Specialty & Fine Chemical, Pharma, Biofuels (Distillery, Bio-diesel), Refining, Petrochemical Industry in R&D or technical services.
- Minimum of 5 years in process in process conceptualization, process optimization and technoeconomic analysis, innovation and licensing in the field of Distillation, membrane separations (especially pervaporation) and adsorption
- Handling of intellectual property and trade secrets
- Costing of Technology Development Projects preferred
- Experience in developing new user added modules in existing process simulators preferred
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / TRAININGS:
- Professional trainings and certifications in the field of Process design, Process optimization, dynamic simulations, LOPA etc. are added plus points.
- Membership in professional bodies, AICHE etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Strong process simulation skills (AspenPlus, UNISIM (Hysys), Pro/II or ChemCAD)
- Considerable analytical ability
- Strong in fundamentals of separation processes, thermodynamics (VLE) and kinetics / Reaction engineering
- Modeling & Statistical analysis
- Programming languages, VBA & Excel macros
- Basic understanding of organic and analytical chemistry
- Excellent written and verbal communication and co-ordination skills
- Proficiency in Advanced MS Office (Word, PPT, Excel & Visio)
- Dynamic process simulation skills preferred
- Creative, innovative, open minded and self-motivated
- Awareness of project management software such as MS Project
- Ability to make technical reports / pre-feasibility, feasibility reports / design reports
- Ability to solve multiple, simultaneous problems
