 Assistant Professor - Multiple Disabilities

Job Description

Teach self-contained academic courses to students w/multiple disabilities.

2. Maintain records as required by  policy; maintain professional ethics.

3. Essential functions should correspond to those of the classroom teacher

4. Provide a basic core program for students with multiple disabilities consistent with Department of Education, Special Education Division code requirements.

5. Requisition materials and supplies from the principal for distribution to students.

6. Be responsible for designing and implementing of the curriculum and daily instruction to meet the student needs.

7. Work cooperatively with the school psychologists for placement recommendations.

8. Make special efforts, including home visits, parent conferences and written reports, to keep parents informed of student progress.

9. Keep aware of current methods of instruction as they relate to students. 

10. Work cooperatively with colleagues, parents and administration.

11. Provide parents with timely (quarterly) reports as required by school calendar.

12. Demonstrate the ability to maintain an effective classroom management system. Give positive reinforcement to students for acceptable academic and social behavior.

13. Implement modification behavior techniques as needed to promote a positive learning environment.

14. Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent to the multiple disabilities program or state reporting.

15. Attend district and faculty meetings (seminars, conferences, workshops, etc.) as adopted in the calendar, unless excused by the principal.

16. Provide direction and guidance to the Instructional Assistant through discussion and modeling of established procedures and coordinate implementation of goals and objectives.

17. Provide direct support for the physical needs of students (mobility, positioning, eating, toileting).

18. Facilitate and manage Alternate Assessment process.

19. Collaborate with supplemental services (i.e. PT, OT, Speech, Adaptive P.E.) as stated on individuals

20. Maintain certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention.

1. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;

2. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values;

3. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District 

4. Conduct other duties related to the teacher's duties as assigned by the principal, special education coordinator, director of educational services, assistant superintendent and/or superintendent
