Job Description

In this role the individual is required to directly support and provide strategic guidance to his / her team members for the Oncology portfolio through scientific leadership and engaging with Key external stakeholders such as KOLs, HCPs, Physician associations, Patient associations Regulatory authorities (both central and state), policy makers as well as different institutions (both Government and Private) to present the scientific value of allocated portfolio for the benefit of patients and society.

The individual will also create medical strategies aligned with the commercial BU strategies, global medical strategies, local business goals and local customer insights. This includes knowledge of current and future pipeline planning and access. The individual is also required to spend a significant amount of time in mentoring and coaching of the team members reporting to him / her.

The role requires skill sets for strategic medical leadership, strong scientific acumen in innovative portfolio, experience/understanding of clinical operations and expertise in building KOLs relationships and advocacy especially with KOLs, HCPs and Associations. It will be desirable for the incumbent to have a past experience of supervising small size team.

Primary Responsibilities

The Leader will partner closely with internal stakeholders such as commercial (marketing and sales), regulatory, Medical Information, Drug safety, Clinical development, legal, compliance and other BU medical affairs teams to develop, lead and execute an integrated set of medical plans in alignment with commercial for supporting the allocated portfolio at Pfizer India:

  • Work collaboratively with the country commercial team to develop, lead and execute the medical affairs strategic plan for the entire Oncology BU along with the team members.
  • Collaborate with public affairs team to drive value proposition of innovation in oncology, align this with government policies and agenda of prevention and access to healthcare to Indian patients
  • Collaborate with the regional and global medical affairs team to understand the global medical strategies for the entire portfolio and bring in global best practices to build the local medical plans accordingly.
  • This role will especially need to work with regional team for new product planning and prioritization for immediately upcoming as well as long term horizon products.
  • Actively engage with key external stakeholders such as Key opinion leaders, physician associations and regulatory bodies for customer insights, advocacy and relationship building for the allocated portfolio in alignment with Pfizer policies and local regulations.
  • Drive high level scientific interactions with policy makers to facilitate access of Pfizer products to patients with patients first in mind.
  • Ensure participation in key scientific congresses by self or team to disseminate or gather relevant scientific information for the portfolio.
  • Review and approve the research proposals (IIRs), grant proposals, publication plan and other medical projects for the allocated BU in alignment with the overall commercial strategy.
  • Lead the conceptualization and medical review of all promotional strategies for the BU to ensure they are fair balanced, backed with scientific data and in accordance with Pfizer policies and local regulations.
  • Plan and execute the medical affairs budget for the entire medical BU and ensure appropriate resource planning for all key brands / projects of the portfolio.
  • Lead and mentor the team member reporting to him with overall responsibility for talent acquisition, development and retention for the concerned medical BU.
  • Be ultimately accountable for complying to all local policies, procedures and regulations for self and team in all activities relevant to the entire medical BU

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MD required with at least 10 years of progressive experience in Pharma or allied industry (medical affairs and clinical development) with at least 3-5 years of experience in Oncology TA and an experience of leading small teams.

  • Demonstrated experience in new product planning and launches
  • Experience in building advocacy and scientific leadership with external stakeholders, demonstrating value proposition of innovation
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and executing medical affairs strategy in multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Demonstrated success at building and leading effective teams with exceptional capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in MSL function or leading one
  • Demonstration of leading innovative medical affairs projects in one or more TA.
  • Very strong communications and relationship building capacity with internal and external stakeholders and working in matrix environment
  • Strong strategic mindset, familiarity with building a strong medical strategy plan, local health policies, codes and regulation.
  • Willingness to travel as per job requirements.
