Hiring for Linux System Engineer

Roles & Responsibility

The Linux Systems Engineer designs, supports and maintains the Linux platform to meet business requirements. The individual also resolves technical issues, address change management requests, and identifies potential issues by implementing protective measures. The engineer Linux Systems Engineer must automate work procedures by collaborating with others in the IT department. This individual should be highly skilled and a specialist in at least one Red Hat based operating systems, they must be able to comprehend enterprise infrastructure

• Design, maintain and support the Linux platform
• Ensure a stable platform
• Infrastructure and software management
• System services management
• Automation (Bash/Ansible)
• Ensure that the servers are configured as per the First Rand Group standard for security
• Optimize performance to meet the demands
• Deployment and implementation of new systems
• Pro-active monitoring of system activities, filesystems, hardware errors, system resources
• Capacity planning to a degree
• Identify potential risks and escalate when necessary
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Effective time management to ensure deadlines are met
• Ensure business continuity even when out-of-office
• Networking and system configuration

Qualifications

NQF Level 7 qualification in IT or Engineering

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCSA at a minimum)

VMware Certified Professional

AWS Certified

Experience

Minimum 10 years in the IT industry

5 - 10 years Linux systems engineering

5 years VMware experience

Minimum 3 years working with DevOps
