Technical Lab Assistant Maker Lab
Location: K.R. Mangalam University, Sohna Road, Gurugram
Reports To: Maker Lab Manager
Role Summary
The Technical Lab Assistant will play a key supporting role in the day-to-day operations of the Maker Lab. They will assist with equipment setup, component management, tool maintenance, and student support during lab sessions, workshops, and open innovation hours. The role requires practical knowledge of electronics, basic programming, and fabrication tools.
Key Responsibilities
Lab Preparation and Setup
- Set up tools, microcontrollers, and hardware components for scheduled classes.
- Ensure all materials (breadboards, wires, resistors, sensors) are available and organized.
- Power up and test equipment before each lab session.
Student and Faculty Assistance
- Help students with hands-on tasks such as wiring circuits, writing basic Arduino code, and connecting sensors.
- Provide debugging support during lab classes and project development.
- Assist faculty in demonstrations and real-time project evaluations.
Inventory and Maintenance
- Track and refill consumables like wires, sensors, jumper cables, resistors, etc.
- Assist with basic repairs and upkeep of lab tools (multimeters, soldering stations, etc.).
- Maintain daily and weekly logs for hardware usage and working condition.
Equipment Support
- Set up and monitor 3D printers during prototyping work.
- Support Arduino and Raspberry Pi-based project development.
- Help students with software installations and IDE troubleshooting.
Lab Safety and Cleanliness
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and correct handling of equipment.
- Keep workstations clean, organized, and ready for the next use.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Diploma/ITI or B.Tech in Electronics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Electrical, or related field.
- 13 years of hands-on experience working with Arduino, sensors, and basic prototyping tools.
- Comfortable with wiring, breadboarding, and using hand tools (cutter, screwdriver, soldering iron).
- Basic understanding of microcontroller programming and serial communication.
Desirable:
- Exposure to 3D printing and use of slicing software (e.g., Cura, Tinkercad).
- Experience working in academic or maker lab environments.
- Willingness to learn and support interdisciplinary projects.
