Role Summary
As a Staff Technical Writer, you will be responsible for working both independently and collaboratively to develop, plan, and write product documentation, including managing final deliverables. You will contribute to the team on a variety of software documentation projects and provide guidance to other team members as needed. Your primary responsibility will be documenting new features and issue fixes for an assigned software product. You will obtain information from a task management system (Jira), scrum team, and the software itself, and then use appropriate company-defined standards, process, and guidelines to develop the end-user content in easy-to-understand language.
Roles and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Create various types of user documentation including manuals, guides, presentations and more.
- Analyze complex technical systems and software and fill any gaps in existing documentation.
- Take a hands-on role utilizing in-depth understanding of concepts and principles in partnering with SMEs, stakeholders, and team members to produce high quality technical documentation
- Establish and evaluate effective document delivery/presentation methods.
- Actively participate in daily Scrum stand-up meetings, weekly planning and review meetings.
- Track documentation activities, including identifying and estimating work, updating status, and managing your own workload to ensure all work is completed within sprint and release
deadlines.
- Coordinate all translations and vendor relationships as required.
Education Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in with advanced experience. Degree should be in English, Mass Communication, Journalism, BE, or other related field.
Desired Characteristics:
- Outstanding writing skills, namely a command of grammar, syntax, diction, and the conventions and best practices of writing a variety of technical documents. Ability to recognize errors and
opportunities for developmental improvement in information deliverables.
- Strong skills with the authoring tools, documentation approaches, and output (HTML/PDF) generators. For example: MadCap Flare, advanced Microsoft Word usage, Webworks,
Markdown, AsciiDoc, Antora.
- Experience with content management systems, particularly GitHub.
- Experience with task management systems, such as Jira or Team Foundation Server.
- Clear understanding of Lean/Agile software development processes. Understanding of software design, development, and QA and ability to leverage this understanding to inform planning and execution for information development projects.
- Strong knowledge of core technical communication concepts, such as topic-based authoring, minimalism, task-oriented design, single-sourcing.
- Strong skills at researching and leveraging information architecture principles to create a
content structure that supports a wide variety of information types and deliverables
- Outstanding ability to define and research user profiles and to create content targeted
appropriately to meet user goals.
