Job Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Business Objects (BO) and Power BI Specialist with at least 4 years of experience, particularly in migration preferably from Business Object to Power The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of creating and testing semantic models, report development, and end-to-end validation.
Key Responsibilities:
Semantic Layer Development and Migration
- Design and develop semantic models based on package stored procedures and multiple tables.
- Create and manage calculated variables (measures and dimensions), filters, parameters, and derived tables.
- Perform and validate table joins, cardinality, and alias tables in the semantic model vs. BO universes.
- Understand, analyze, and replicate the universe structure from BO into Power BI.
- Ensure accurate mapping of joins, cardinalities, measures, dimensions, and filters between BO universes and Power BI semantic models.
- Refresh and maintain semantic models with robust methodologies and troubleshooting.
Report Development
- Develop and format paginated reports, visual reports, and multi-tabbed reports in Power BI.
- Create reports using stored procedures and user-defined input prompts/parameters.
- Incorporate parameters and filters at both report and data source levels.
- Develop calculated columns/variables and design visually engaging, user-friendly reports.
- Schedule reports and implement dynamic parameter handling during scheduling.
Testing and Validation
- Conduct end-to-end testing for semantic models, including joins, cardinality, derived tables, and alias tables.
- Validate measures, dimensions, and filter definitions in semantic models against BO universes.
- Test Power BI reports (paginated, visual, and others) for design accuracy, functionality, and performance.
- Compare and validate outputs from BO universe-based reports and Power BI reports for consistency.
- Ensure alignment of adhoc report outputs between BO universes and semantic models.
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least 4 years of experience in Business Objects (BO) and Power BI development.
- Proficient in creating and managing semantic layers, including table joins, cardinality, and derived tables.
- Strong understanding of BO universe design and Power BI modeling techniques.
- Expertise in report development and formatting, including advanced use of parameters, filters, and calculated measures.
- Proven experience in migration projects, ensuring parity between BO and Power BI outputs.
- Excellent troubleshooting and validation skills for semantic models and reports.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Experience with stored procedures, complex SQL queries, and relational database systems.
- Familiarity with scheduling tools and dynamic parameter management in Power BI.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
