Job Description
Work Plan
- Overall Context to Work
- Our goal is to introduce some centralized software test management and test automation
- The work is in a biomedical research informatics software engineering department
- The group currently has no centralized quality team, but each product team may have quality engineer resources
- We'll need someone to asses our current state, make expert recommendations, document and implement them
Anticipated Duties
- Quality Maturity Assessment
- Asses our current software testing practices and identify opportunities to improve.
- Make expert recommendations to improve our testing strategy and tools
- Collaborate with existing quality engineers in diverse product teams to understand their work and process
- Collaborate with software engineers to understand their work and process
- Establish standard for testing
- Document the new testing strategy, guides, best practices, and work instructions
- Ensure the standard is sufficient for required security control framework
- Implement software testing automation
- Supporting existing test frameworks already in use by different product teams
- Offer assistance implementing testing to teams that have insufficient or no testing
- Recommend the best tool to centralize test strategy, planning, test automation and test result retention.
- Integrate selected testing tools with existing ITSM & CI/CD tooling (Jira, Jenkins)
- System Deployment
- For any chosen test management or testing tools, implement and integrate the system
- Support the onboarding of various software teams to utilize the selected testing tooling
- Support those software teams in automation of their existing testing and automate retention of their results
Candidate Qualities
- The ideal candidate is someone who has built several successful software quality and testing organizations, is technical capable of supporting engineers already using diverse testing solutions, and can establish document and implement best practices for teams.
- Incredibly experienced quality engineer/architect or technical manager
- Exceptional documentation that is clear and comprehensive
- Extensive experience with all forms of software testing (e.g. functional, integration, acceptance, regression, non-functional, smoke, end-to-end, performance, black box, exploratory, unit, automated, security, and system testing)
- Jenkins expertise in automating testing in CI/CD
- Programming experience likely with Groovy and/or Python
- Familiarity with a broad range of common testing tools and frameworks. Examples of helpful technology includes:
- Cucumber
- JUnit
- Robot Framework
- Selenium
- Tricentis Tosca
- XRay for Jira
- CheckMarx
- SonarQube
- OpenText
