Job Overview
We are seeking a creative and skilled Furniture Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality, functional, and aesthetically appealing furniture pieces. You will work with clients, interior designers, and manufacturers to ensure that the furniture designs are not only visually striking but also practical, durable, and cost-effective. Using advanced design tools and techniques, you will turn concepts into finished products while ensuring all production requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Furniture Design: Develop innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing furniture designs for residential, commercial, or specialized applications, such as office furniture, seating, tables, storage units, etc.
- CAD Modeling & Prototyping: Use CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SketchUp) to create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and prototypes for new furniture designs.
- Material Selection: Recommend appropriate materials (wood, metal, fabric, plastics, etc.) for furniture construction based on durability, functionality, aesthetics, and cost.
- Engineering Solutions: Integrate engineering principles to design furniture that is structurally sound, safe, and optimized for ease of production and assembly.
- Manufacturing Support: Provide technical support to manufacturers, ensuring that designs are feasible for mass production, and assist with solving any manufacturing issues.
- Cost Optimization: Balance design goals with cost considerations to ensure that furniture is produced within budget constraints while maintaining design quality.
- Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with interior designers, project managers, and manufacturers to ensure designs meet client specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the creation and testing of prototypes to ensure the functionality, durability, and usability of the furniture designs. Iterate and refine designs based on testing feedback.
- Quality Control: Ensure that furniture designs adhere to high-quality standards throughout the design, development, and manufacturing processes.
- Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, budgets, and client requirements are met.
- Research & Innovation: Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and new technologies to continuously innovate and improve furniture designs.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of [2-5 years] of experience in furniture design, with a proven track record of designing and developing furniture products.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, Keyshot etc.).
- Solid understanding of furniture construction techniques, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to address design challenges and optimize solutions for functionality, manufacturability, and aesthetics.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients, team members, and manufacturers.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail in creating accurate designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Project Management: Ability to manage design projects from conceptualization to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
Desirable Traits
- Experience with furniture prototyping and testing.
- Familiarity with CNC machining, woodwork, or metalworking.
- Experience with furniture production processes and supply chain management.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
