Job Description

    Job Summary As a Metallurgy Engineer, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and implementing processes for producing and refining metal products. You will use principles of material science to solve engineering problems, improve product quality, and enhance manufacturing processes. You will also work on ensuring that metal products meet quality standards and are safe for their intended use. Key Responsibilities Material Development & Testing - Investigate the physical and chemical properties of metals and alloys. - Conduct laboratory tests to analyze materials and determine their suitability for specific applications. - Develop new materials or improve existing alloys to meet product requirements. Process Improvement - Develop, design, and optimize metal production processes, including smelting, casting, and forging. - Work to reduce material waste, improve production efficiency, and enhance product durability. - Implement quality control and safety measures in manufacturing processes. Design & Production Support - Provide technical support for manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and resolve production issues. - Collaborate with design engineers to ensure materials selected are fit for purpose and cost-effective. - Develop and recommend technical specifications for metal products. Research & Development - Research emerging metallurgical technologies and materials to stay ahead of industry trends. - Evaluate new processing techniques to improve metal strength, durability, or performance. Quality Control & Compliance - Ensure materials and products meet industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications. - Perform failure analysis on defective products and suggest improvements or corrective actions. - Coordinate with testing laboratories and third-party agencies to ensure compliance with certifications. Collaboration & Reporting - Work with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, designers, and production managers. - Create technical reports, presentations, and documentation for project stakeholders. Required Skills & Qualifications - Bachelor's or Masters degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. - Strong knowledge of metallurgy, materials science, and manufacturing processes. - Proficiency in materials characterization techniques, such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing. - Familiarity with software tools for materials design, process simulation, and data analysis (e.g., MATLAB, COMSOL, AutoCAD). - Good understanding of metal fatigue, corrosion, and heat treatment processes. - Experience with laboratory work, equipment, and analysis. - Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. - Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications - Certification in Metallurgical Engineering or related professional body. - Experience with specific industries such as aerospace, automotive, or energy. - Knowledge of lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies. - Prior experience in project management or leading teams. Physical Requirements: - Ability to work in laboratory and manufacturing environments, including handling of heavy equipment. - Occasional travel to manufacturing plants or testing sites may be required.
