Job Description


Roles & Responsibilities:


Industrial Relations & Labor Law Compliance:


  • Industrial Relations Management: Foster a positive, harmonious working environment by maintaining constructive relationships with labour unions, workers, and contractors.
  • Labor Dispute Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for conflict resolution, managing disputes, grievances, and negotiations between workers and management, aiming for timely, cost-effective resolutions.
  • Compliance with Labor Laws: Ensure full compliance with local and national labour laws and regulations, including employment contracts, working hours, wages, occupational health, and safety (OHS), and worker's rights.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert advice on labour law compliance, changes in regulations, and potential legal risks related to HR practices. Liaise with legal teams for any litigation or legal matters that may arise.
  • Union Relations: Manage the relationship with trade unions, negotiate collective bargaining agreements (CBA), and represent the company in any labour board hearings or legal proceedings.
  • Contractual Compliance: Ensure that all labour contracts (including contractors and subcontractors) comply with legal requirements, company policies, and monitor any breaches.

On-site HR Operations:

  • Employee Relations & Engagement: Ensure a positive workplace culture, employee engagement, and morale by addressing employee concerns, implementing welfare programs, and organizing initiatives to improve overall job satisfaction.
  • Workforce Planning & Scheduling: Support project management by coordinating workforce requirements, maintaining proper labour allocation, and ensuring that the right skills are available on-site at the right time.
  • Training & Development: Identify training needs related to industrial relations, labour laws, safety compliance, and worker skills. Coordinate and organize relevant training programs for employees and supervisors.
  • Health & Safety: Collaborate with the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) team to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure that all labour law requirements related to health and safety are strictly followed.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • HR Metrics & Reporting: Track key HR metrics such as absenteeism, turnover, labour costs, etc., and provide regular reports to the Project Manager.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including contracts, wage information, work permits, and any documentation relating to industrial relations or legal disputes.
  • Audit Compliance: Assist with regular internal and external audits of labour practices, working conditions, and overall HR compliance.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaboration with Management: Work closely with project management and other departments to understand the workforce requirements and ensure that HR policies align with the projects goals.
  • External Relations: Build and maintain relationships with external labour authorities, agencies, and legal entities. Represent the organization in any legal or labour-related hearings or inspections.

Key Requirements:

Educational Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or master's degree in human resources, Industrial Relations or related field.
    • Professional certifications in HR or Industrial Relations (e.g., SHRM, CIPD, etc.) would be advantageous.

Experience:

    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Human Resources, with at least 5 years in a similar role in a petrochemical, Chemical, Fertilizer, Oil & Gas or industrial project environment.
    • Proven expertise in Industrial Relations and Labor Law Compliance, with strong knowledge of local and international labour laws, including union negotiations and dispute resolution.

Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of labour laws, employment standards, and collective bargaining.
    • Ability to handle complex dispute resolution and negotiation processes.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of workers, contractors, unions, and management.
    • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills.
    • Familiarity with HR software systems and reporting tools.

Personal Traits:

    • High level of integrity and ethics in dealing with labour-related issues.
    • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Culturally sensitive and able to work with a diverse workforce in a multicultural environment.

Additional Information:

  • This position requires a strong commitment to safety standards, ethical practices, and the ability to work long hours or in remote locations.
  • The Site HR will be expected to be present on-site regularly to manage the day-to-day HR activities and address any labour-related issues as they arise

  • After 2 years can relocate to Lagos with Family (all relocation expense of the family will be borne by company)
