Job Description

Job Purpose

The IP Analyst is responsible for conducting comprehensive patent research and analysis to support clients in protecting their intellectual property. The IP Analyst will play a key role in conducting prior art searches and, depending on experience, may also perform freedom-to-operate (FTO) searches and landscape analyses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality prior art searches in accordance with ISO 9001 mandated processes.
  • Develop effective search strategies tailored to client needs.
  • Review and analyze search lists and patent documents.
  • Conduct prior art searches, including novelty/patentability, validity, and state-of-the-art searches, following ISO 9001 mandated search processes.
  • Depending on experience level, assist in conducting freedom-to-operate (FTO) searches under close supervision or independently according to ISO 9001 processes.
  • Depending on experience level, perform patent landscape analyses to provide insights into the competitive and technological environment surrounding specific innovations or fields.
  • Develop and refine search strategies based on client objectives and specific patent-related queries.
  • Review and assess search lists to identify relevant patent documents and other technical literature.
  • Draft detailed search reports, summarizing key findings and offering insights into patentability, validity, or state-of-the-art considerations.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as an IP Analyst, with a strong foundation in patent research and analysis.
  • SEP (Standard Essential Patent ) experience is a must 
  • A good working knowledge of the tools and techniques used to build effective Boolean search strategies.
  • Familiarity in using global patent databases, including those offering AI search capabilities.
  • Understanding of technical concepts in engineering, science, or related fields to support accurate assessment of patent documents.
  • Strong ability to conduct thorough prior art searches and provide detailed, high-quality reports.
  • A meticulous approach to reviewing search lists and patent documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate research findings through well-organized reports and verbal communication.
