Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior API Test Automation Engineer with deep expertise in testing RESTful APIs using Java and Rest Assured. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to ensure the delivery of secure, robust, and high-quality APIs in a fast-paced environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
API Test Automation: Design, develop, and execute automated tests for RESTful APIs using Rest Assured and Java across various scenarios (happy path, edge cases, and negative cases).
Security & Authentication Testing: Validate secure endpoints using OAuth2, JWT, API keys, and implement role-based authorization checks.
Framework Development: Build and maintain modular, scalable, and reusable API automation frameworks using patterns like Data-Driven Testing and Builder Pattern.
Response Validation: Ensure correctness of API responses, including status codes, headers, JSON/XML payloads, schema validations, and performance metrics.
CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated test suites with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins) for continuous test execution during code commits, builds, and deployments.
Mocking & Stubbing: Utilize tools like WireMock or MockServer to simulate third-party services and test APIs in isolation.
Performance Testing Support: Collaborate with performance engineering teams to support API load testing efforts with tools like JMeter or Gatling.
Defect Triage: Identify, log, and manage defects with detailed bug reports, collaborating with development teams for root cause analysis.
Version Control: Manage code using Git and ensure clean, maintainable, and well-documented test code.
Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with developers, QA teams, and product owners to define test cases and ensure traceability of API test coverage.
Must-Have Skills
7+ years of experience in software QA with at least 5 years in API automation.
Proficiency in Java, test frameworks (TestNG or JUnit), and build tools (Maven or Gradle).
Strong hands-on experience with Rest Assured, JSONPath, HTTP methods, and RESTful service testing.
Deep understanding of API testing concepts including authentication, data validation, and edge case handling.
Experience building custom API automation frameworks and utilities.
CI/CD tool experience (GitLab CI, Jenkins) with pipeline integration.
Familiarity with Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI specifications, and API schema validation.
Strong debugging and log analysis skills.
Solid understanding of Git-based version control and collaborative workflows.
Nice to Have
Experience with contract testing tools like Pact or advanced schema validation.
Hands-on with WireMock, MockServer, or similar service virtualization tools.
Exposure to performance testing with JMeter or Gatling.
Familiarity with containerized test execution environments (e.g., Docker).
