Role Purpose: We are seeking an engineer to support the development and optimization of a glass melting unit to produce rods and tubes. This role will focus on applying solid engineering principles to ensure process stability, maximize operational efficiency, and drive continuous improvement. The engineer will work to support daily operations, troubleshoot issues, and implement strategies that meet customer satisfaction targets while maintaining consistent quality. Working with (Reporting Relationship): Reports to Lead: Material science and engineering What the Role entails (Key Responsibilities): Ensure the safe and stable process development and optimization of glass melting and rod extrusion. Provide first-level troubleshooting and resolve process instabilities in collaboration with other plant functions. Conduct daily engineering oversight, through technical analysis and problem-solving in melting and forming processes. Apply analytical results to continuously improve processes and meet desired specifications. Lead troubleshooting efforts for melting defects. Provide training to production personnel to enhance process understanding and operational efficiency. Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), focusing on safety, efficiency, process variation reduction, and training for key processes. Oversee furnace repair and downtime management, contributing to tank life strategy development. Support plant-level projects, including equipment upgrades, start-ups, new technology implementation, and process improvements. Collaborate on the development of new equipment designs and processes to enhance the capabilities of the glass melting and rod production process. Support the development and optimization of vapor deposition processes Conduct experiments and analyze data related to optical fiber manufacturing, to inform process improvements. Perform spectroscopic and optical characterization of materials to evaluate structure, and properties, using techniques such as FTIR,
UV-Vis, SEM-EDX, Raman and ICP-MS Utilize thermodynamic and kinetic principles to model and predict vapor deposition behaviors, ensuring precise control the process Document experimental results, prepare technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of
progress and technical challenges. Troubleshoot and resolve process issues, applying root cause analysis and engineering methodologies for process improvement
