Job Description
Job Purpose:
To ensure reliable operation and effective maintenance of protection systems in substations, minimizing downtime and protecting assets by implementing best practices in testing, coordination, and fault analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operation & Maintenance:
- Supervise and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of protection relays, control systems, and SCADA interfaces.
- Conduct periodic health checks and functional testing of protection equipment.
- Ensure timely restoration of protection systems post-fault/tripping events.
- Testing & Commissioning:
- Perform relay setting calculations and configure relays using OEM-specific software (e.g., SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB).
- Conduct primary and secondary injection testing for relays and CT/PT circuits.
- Support end-to-end testing for various protection schemes like distance, differential, overcurrent, earth fault, etc.
- Fault Analysis & Troubleshooting:
- Analyze protection event logs, disturbance records, and relay data post-tripping/faults.
- Identify root causes and propose corrective measures to avoid recurrence.
- Prepare incident/fault reports and maintain O&M records.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain updated documentation of relay settings, test reports, and protection schematics.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, statutory regulations, and internal SOPs.
- Support audits and implement NCR closures related to protection systems.
- Technical Support & Coordination:
- Coordinate with OEMs, system operators, and field teams for troubleshooting and updates.
- Provide technical support during emergency conditions and major outages.
- Train junior engineers and technicians on protection systems and protocols.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of power system protection, substation equipment, and protection relays.
- Hands-on experience in relay configuration and testing tools (OMICRON, Doble, Megger, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills for event/fault analysis.
- Familiarity with SCADA, automation systems, and grid codes.
- Good communication and report writing skills.
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Qualification & Experience:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
- Experience: 310 years in Protection O&M of substations & Transmission line(132kV and above)
- Certifications (Preferred): Protection system training from OEMs, safety certifications
