Job Description
What You'll DoAvalara is looking for a Lead Automation Engineer to build the automation supporting our Tax Filing system.
This is a role ideal for someone who excels in driving and mentoring a team to provide scalable automation solutions.
You'll deliver high-quality process automations and practice industry best practices.
You will join a team of engineers responsible for delivering solutions in an Agile environment.
You will be reporting to the Engineering manager at Avalara.
This is a remote role.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
- Design automation solutions using Python, Robot Framework, and Avalara's in-house automation tool (Studio).
- Create efficient, scalable, and resilient workflows to automate complex business processes within the Tax Filing ecosystem.
- Lead a team of engineers, setting standards for code quality, test coverage, and automation design.
- Contribute to all phases of the SDLC planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Foster a Quality First, Zero Defects culture by promoting a Shift Left approach and advocating for early testing practices.
- Collaborate with team members and partners to evaluate automation opportunities across different departments.
- Conduct process assessments and translate them into clear, applicable requirements for automation development.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for automation solutions, ensuring they remain and performant over time.
- Monitor solution performance, implementing enhancements or remediations.
- Work with platform engineering, product management, and departmental teams to align automation efforts with our goals.
- Communicate technical issues, and dependencies to partners, ensuring transparency and agreement.
What You'll Need to be Successful
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in designing and implementing automation solutions, with at least 1 years in a technical leadership or lead engineer role.
- Expertise in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools such as UIPath, Robocorp, or Blue Prism.
- Scripting skills in Python or Robot Framework; ability to guide best practices and code quality.
- Solid experience with web-based automation using Selenium and integration of automation with web applications.
- Proficiency in working with RESTful APIs, and handling JSON and XML data formats.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab for automation deployment and version control.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies; within iterative,.
- Experience with driving efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement in automation engineering.
