Notice Period: Immediate or serving notice period

Work from office : Hyderabad.
Work mode: 3 Days WFO.

In this role, you will be responsible to design, implement and manage the migration of Active Directory (AD) domains from one environment to another either with an ambition to consolidate, or for cloud migration or upgrades. Strong technical expertise, including experience with Active Directory architecture, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related technologies is required

Responsibilities

A Microsoft Active Directory Domain Migration Architect is a specialized IT professional who designs, implements, and manages the migration of Active Directory domains from one environment to another, often for cloud migration or upgrades. They must possess strong technical expertise, including experience with Active Directory architecture, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing detailed migration plans, including scope, target environments, and timelines.
  • Using tools like ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool) to move users, computers, groups, and other objects between domains or forests.
  • Supervising the execution of the migration, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Providing assistance to users and administrators after the migration is complete, including troubleshooting and ongoing support.
  • Implementing security best practices to protect the migrated Active Directory environment.
  • Diagnosing and resolving problems related to Active Directory, DNS, and related technologies.
  • Staying informed about the latest Microsoft products, technologies, and migration methodologies.

Required Skills and Experience:

  1. Active Directory Expertise
  • Deep understanding of AD architecture, domain/forest structure, and trust relationships.
  • Experience with domain migrations, consolidations, and domain controller placement.
  • Strong grasp of FSMO roles, replication topology, and Global Catalog usage.

2. DNS and Networking

  • Solid knowledge of DNS configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with WAN links, latency, site-to-site VPNs, and how they impact AD replication.
  • Understanding of subnetting and AD Sites and Services.

3. AD Migration Tools & Techniques

  • Hands-on experience with tools like:
    • ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool)
    • PowerShell scripting for automation
    • Third-party migration tools (e.g., Quest Migration Manager)
  • Expertise in sidHistory, user/group SID translation, and object migration.

4. Group Policy (GPO) Management

  • Ability to audit, consolidate, and troubleshoot Group Policy Objects.
  • Ensure policies are not lost or misapplied post-consolidation.

5. Authentication & Security

  • Knowledge of Kerberos and NTLM authentication.
  • Experience in securing domain controllers, auditing logs, and managing privileged access.
  • PKI, certificate services, and smart card authentication knowledge (if applicable).

6. Global Infrastructure Awareness

  • Understanding of regional regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, data residency).
  • Familiarity with multi-language, multi-time zone environments.
  • Ability to handle identity conflicts and naming conventions across regions.

7. Disaster Recovery & Backup Planning

  • Planning for rollback scenarios and having a solid backup/restore strategy for AD.

8. Communication & Documentation

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with international teams.
  • Experience in creating detailed migration runbooks, rollback plans, and change documentation.

9. Project Management

  • Ability to lead or contribute to large infrastructure projects.
  • Risk assessment, timeline planning, and coordination with stakeholders
  • Problem-solving skills:

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Active Directory and other IT infrastructure.

  • Communication skills:

Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Relevant certifications:

Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are highly desirable.

Additional Information:

  • Experience Level: Experience typically ranges from 8-10 years or more.

An L3 Architect-level IC profile with strong expertise in Domain Migration, specifically On-Prem to On-Prem. The candidate should analyze the current environment, plan the migration, and guide the team in implementing the future model. Experience in AD infrastructure expansion and elaboration is a must. ole & responsibilities
