Job Description
Job Title: Senior SQL System Administrator / SQL Tech Lead
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SQL System Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration and management with over 8 years of total experience, including at least 6 years of relevant experience. As the SQL Tech Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing DBA-related tasks and ensuring the optimal performance, security, and reliability of our SQL databases.
Key Responsibilities: Manage, maintain Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Managed Instances.
- Perform regular backup and restore operations to ensure data integrity and availability, including testing recovery strategies and automating backup processes.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot stored procedures to enhance database functionality and performance, ensuring efficient query execution and minimizing resource usage.
- Oversee management and maintenance of database clusters, including setup, configuration, and monitoring of cluster health and performance.
- Implement and manage user and role management strategies along with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to ensure secure access and compliance with internal policies.
- Set up, configure, and manage Disaster Recovery (DR) and High Availability (HA) solutions, including regular testing and documentation of DR plans.
- Plan and execute migration of SQL databases to newer environments or cloud platforms with minimal downtime and data loss.
- Optimize and maintain databases using advanced techniques such as indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
- Manage on-premises SQL Servers (2014, 2016, and 2022), ensuring optimal performance and security through updates, patching, and monitoring.
- Conduct query optimization and performance tuning by analyzing query execution plans, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing improvements.
- Schedule and manage database jobs to automate routine tasks, ensuring timely execution and monitoring outcomes.
- Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database solutions aligned with application requirements and performance goals.
- Monitor database performance and provide proactive recommendations for improvements, including capacity planning and trend analysis.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior DBAs and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in database administration and apply them to enhance our database systems.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 8+ years of total experience in database administration and management.
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience with SQL databases, especially Azure SQL DB and Azure SQL Managed Instances.
- Deep knowledge of database backup, restore, and recovery procedures.
- Proficiency in writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting stored procedures.
- Experience managing database clusters and implementing user/role management with RBAC.
- Expertise in Disaster Recovery (DR) and High Availability (HA) solution setup and management.
- Proven track record in SQL database migration and performance optimization.
- Strong knowledge of on-premises SQL Servers (2014, 2016, 2022).
- Advanced skills in query optimization, performance tuning, and job scheduling.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in SQL Server or related technologies.
- Familiarity with other cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of additional database systems and technologies.
- Experience with database security best practices.
