Safety Officer | Service & Maintenance
Job Summary The Safety Officer in the lift (elevator) industry is responsible for overseeing a team of technicians and engineers to ensure the safety protocols for installation, maintenance, and servicing of lift systems. This role involves leading day-to-day operations, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining high service standards, and enhancing team performance. The Safety Officer will work closely with senior management to achieve Safety goals, optimize workflows, and deliver safe work methods both at office and field.

Key Responsibilities (KRAs)
Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification
Conduct site safety audits and risk assessments at project locations.
Identify and evaluate potential hazards in elevator installation and maintenance.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with local labor laws, safety codes (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001), and elevator safety standards (e.g., EN 81, IS codes). Incident Investigation
Lead accident/incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain accident/incident logs and reports. Training & Awareness
Organize safety induction and training for new joiners and subcontractors.
Conduct toolbox talks and refresher safety sessions. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain and update safety-related documentation (PTW, risk assessment, safety data sheets).
Submit periodic safety reports to management. Coordination & Supervision
Liaise with project managers and field staff to enforce safety measures.
Supervise the use of PPE and adherence to safety policies.
Reduction in incident/accident rate.
Safety training compliance rate.
Regulatory and audit compliance.
Implementation of safety initiatives.
Domain Skills
Knowledge of elevator/escalator systems and operations
Understanding of construction and installation hazards
Familiarity with mechanical/electrical site safety
Knowledge of local and international elevator safety standards Technical Competencies
Use of safety tools like PPE audit checklists, hazard logs
Understanding of Permit to Work (PTW) systems
Competency in HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment)
Familiarity with safety management systems (SMS)
Proficient in MS Office, especially for reporting and presentations
Knowledge of first aid, fire safety, fall protection systems Soft Skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Leadership and team management in high-risk environments
Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
Attention to detail Ability to educate and influence behavior
Qualifications
Diploma / Bachelor's in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil preferred)
Mandatory: Certification in Industrial Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, ADIS)
Additional training: Fire & Safety, First Aid, OSHA training Safety Officer | Service & Maintenance
Experience Requirements
3 to 5 years of relevant safety experience in construction, preferably in elevator installation/maintenance or MEP sector
Experience conducting audits, training, and incident investigations in a technical field environment
Previous work with lift installation and service providers is highly preferred.
Familiarity with local safety and regulatory standards in the elevator industry
Language Proficiency:
English: Proficiency in both spoken and written English
Local Languages: Proficiency in local language & Hindi is highly desirable for effective client communication and internal coordination.
