Job Description
- Complete a brief admissionexamination of each patient when appropriate and document clinical findings.
- Ensure the highest standards ofpatient care for all patients attending/admitted to the hospital.
- Attend ward rounds withconsulting doctor, as required, and be available to discuss patient treatmentplans.
- Provide a 24-hour medicalservices within the hospital on an on-call basis permanently.
- Inform admitting Consultants ofchanges in medical conditions of patients and of relevant action taken.
- Follow the instructions ofconsultants for their specific regime for each individual patient.
- Perform clinical procedures asrequested by consultant.
- Visit patients as required atthe request of the nursing staff.
- Countersign any druginstructions given by consultants over the telephone and satisfy prescribingrequirements throughout the hospital, as requested by nursing staff by checkingtheir validity, safety and need.
- Visit all in-patients daily anddocument in clinical notes.
- To be familiar with allrelevant procedures/policies.
- Liaise closely with nursingstaff and other relevant clinical or administrative staff.
- Ensure that comprehensivehandover, with full patient rounds, has taken place at the beginning and end ofeach shifts.
- Ensure comprehensive, accurateand concise medical records are maintained for patients with and appropriatesigned and dated legible entry in patients medical record on every attendanceupon a patient.
- Arrange investigations,surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge as directed by theRegistrar and/or consultant to which assigned.
- Ensure that discharge summariesand other correspondence are completed with minimum delay and that all suchcorrespondence is complete prior to leaving the unit.
- Participate in compulsoryHospital based training, i.e., Fire, BLS/ACLS.
- Keep abreast of newdevelopments, skills, technology, and current literature in order to initiateand respond to changes in the work environment, e.g. data analysis, clinicalaudit, research etc.
- Under no circumstances shouldRMO seek consent for operations or procedures on behalf of a consultant. RMOmust seek consent for any procedures that they intend to undertake.
- RMOs have no admitting rightsto the hospital. All patients admitted must be under the care of a consultantwith admitting rights to the hospital.
- To remain on the hospitalpremises whilst on duty. In the event of an RMO not attending for duty, theprevious RMO must remain until a reliever is found ensuring continuous cover.
