Role Overview:
As an L3 VMware Administrator, you will act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all VMware infrastructure-related communication and escalations. You will be responsible for ensuring 24x7 operational support, system optimization, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and vendor coordination. This role also involves mentoring L1 & L2 teams, conducting root cause analysis (RCA), and implementing preventive measures for high availability and stability.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Incident Management:
- Act as the SPOC for all VMware-related incidents, changes, and escalations.
- Ensure adherence to SLAs and timely resolution of issues within defined response and resolution times.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex infrastructure issues and perform root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents.
- Define and document corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for incidents.
- Coordinate with vendor support teams (VMware, hardware vendors, backup vendors, etc.) for escalations and issue resolution.
Infrastructure Management & Optimization:
- Perform continuous assessments of system design, sizing, and resource allocation to ensure optimized performance.
- Implement best practices for VMware ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX, and other virtualization components.
- Ensure high availability (HA), DRS, FT, and vMotion configurations are optimized.
- Lead efforts in capacity planning, performance monitoring, and resource utilization analysis.
- Identify and mitigate prime risks and limitations within VMware infrastructure projects.
Security & Compliance:
- Ensure VMware infrastructure meets compliance and audit requirements (ISO, PCI-DSS, SOX, etc.).
- Analyze Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) reports and coordinate the closure of High & Medium risks.
- Define and implement VMware security hardening policies to enhance protection against vulnerabilities.
- Conduct regular audits, patch management, and system updates to ensure compliance with security norms.
Project & Change Management:
- Conduct change management activities, including impact analysis, planning, and execution of system changes.
- Manage upgrades, migrations, and new VMware infrastructure deployments as part of business continuity and transformation projects.
- Ensure smooth execution of Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) drills.
- Document Plan of Action (PoA) for major changes and migrations and communicate it effectively to stakeholders.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of VMware infrastructure.
Team Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to L1 & L2 VMware administrators in resolving critical issues.
- Conduct technical training sessions, knowledge-sharing workshops, and documentation updates.
- Define best practices for VMware infrastructure management and ensure team adherence.
