Job Description
Role & responsibilities
- To work under the overall supervision of the chairperson, Infection control committee and the Infection control officer for the smooth and effective functioning of a well designed, comprehensive and coordinated infection control, program aimed at reducing/ eliminating risks to the patients, visitors and providers of care.
- To be responsible for implementation of all infection control protocols for the day to day functioning of the infection control program across the hospital.
- To track down and document the hospital acquired infections in the hospitals on a monthly basis and submit the report to ICO. This is with special reference to UTI, CRBSI, VAP and SSI.
- To be responsible for overall surveillance of infection under the supervision of the ICO following the method, frequency and mode of surveillance as stated in the infection control manual .Scope of surveillance activities should incorporate tracking and analyzing infection risks, rates and trends.
- To help in the investigation and management of outbreaks should they occur. This should include knowledge of Definition, Identification, Investigation and management procedure laid down for an outbreak according to good clinical practices.
- To check hand hygiene by a specific supervision program.
- To conduct audits and supervision program based on the performance indicators to observe the compliance with infection control policies and follow it up with regular documentation and dispersion of data.
- To be responsible for education and training of all infection control policies of the staff, verbally, in writing and in person.
- To undertake implementation of infection control policies in the critical area of Biomedical waste management across the hospital to ensure that statutory provisions with regard to BMW management are complied with.
- To help in the implementation of the staff vaccination program.
- To help in formulation and implementation protocols in each department for the cleaning and sterilization of the equipment with the help of the infection control leaders with the aim of following a uniform policy across different departments within the organization.
- To help in the laundry and the linen management practice.
- To supervise the kitchen sanitation and the food handling issues.
- To help the ICO in the implementation of the Antibiotic policy.
