Job Description
HCL is a 9B+ company with operations worldwide. HCL is building a new group, called ERX, focused on building products ( Hybrid Cloud, 5G, AI/ML tools, Security, Data Engineering etc), in various verticals, (Enterprise/Cloud, Telecom/5G, Aerospace etc.). Our goal is to build these products through a combination of in-house R&D, joint development partnerships with large customers, and M&A. HCL is investing in all aspects of a product organization: including R&D, Product Management, Support, Operations, and Sales GTM worldwide: Direct, Channel/Reseller as well as OEM/Partnerships.
The opportunity is to be part of a new organization, being built from the ground up, in a highly strategic initiative. We are looking for hands-on, entrepreneurial people who can take initiative, are customer driven, and looking to make a difference in a fast paced group.
Cloud Architect is responsible for leading the creation of a technology framework and providing technical leadership in support of ERX's initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms.
The Cloud Architect reports into the Engineering and Architecture organization but would be embedded into the Cloud-DevOps effort to provide architectural leadership and best practices. Additionally, the Cloud Architect will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or closely related subject; an advanced degree is preferred. In addition, 10 or more years' experience in designing large and complex software products or applications in large organizations, a research or academic environment is required.
The position requires strong leadership and team building skills and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals.
Cloud Architecture, Design and Development
- Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability, cloud development services)
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert to the organization for ERX cloud end-to-end architecture, with specialization in either of AWS, Azure or GCP cloud and future providers.
- Develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, based on the ERX application portfolio, as a basis for development and deploying services to the cloud
- Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the "why," and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation
- Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc.
- Develop solutions architecture for software products or applications and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services
- Contribute to DevOps development activities and complex development tasks
- Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications
Consultation
- Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, development, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment
- Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements
- Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners
- Ensure delivered solutions are realized in time frame committed; work in conjunction with project sponsors to size and manage scope and risk
- Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operations
Thought Leadership
- Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements
- Demonstrate forward thinking around where the organization is going and how technology can support these efforts
- Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems
Mentoring
- Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks
- Develop a cohesive team and ensure their continued success
- Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems
- Conduct product work reviews with team members
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- First level University degree
- Typically, 10+ years' experience working in Technology and Solution architecture
- Optionally certified as an architect in one or more Public Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Bluemix or Google Cloud Platform)
- Has played the role of Lead Architect / Chief Architect in complex cloud native software products or applications
- Demonstrable, deep and credible business domain understanding in either:
- o Telecom
- o Financial Services
- o Life Sciences & Healthcare
- o Manufacturing
- o Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods
- o Media and Telecommunications
- o Oil & Gas, Mining, Energy and Utilities
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong visionary skills supported by technical depth and credibility.
- Effective communicator with client-facing skills
- Effectively collaborates, builds relationships and influences team members to work toward common objectives across functions and groups.
- Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and criteria for achieving objectives
- Recognized and highly credible technical leader with current architectural and technical skills across domains including:
- o Traditional infrastructure and application technologies
- o Public, Private cloud and Hybrid IT environments
- o Popular application middleware stacks
- o PaaS (e.g. Cloud Foundry, Azure, OpenShift, IBM Bluemix)
- o IaaS (AWS, Azure, IBM SoftLayer, Google Cloud Platform)
- o SaaS, XaaS and Cloud Brokerage
- o Cloud Native development and architecture
- Keeps themselves updated on latest technology trends and forms opinion on the same.
