Job Description

Mechanical & Utility Head in a Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Plant. This role is critical for ensuring operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and utility management within a complex and environmentally sensitive facility.


Job Purpose:

To lead and manage all mechanical maintenance and utility operations at the lithium-ion battery recycling plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable functioning of all mechanical systems, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Maintenance

  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance for all mechanical equipment including crushers, shredders, conveyors, furnaces, and HVAC systems.
  • Ensure minimum downtime and maximum availability of mechanical systems.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.

Utility Management

  • Manage operations and maintenance of utility systems such as:
    • Compressed air
    • Water treatment & distribution
    • Steam boilers
    • Cooling towers
    • Effluent treatment plants (ETP) and air pollution control systems
  • Monitor energy and water consumption and drive efficiency initiatives.

Project Execution & Capex

  • Plan and execute mechanical installations and expansions for plant upgrades.
  • Coordinate with design and EPC contractors during new project execution.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with safety, statutory, and environmental norms (e.g., PCB, MoEF).
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of mechanical and utility systems.

Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and operators.
  • Conduct training programs on maintenance best practices, SOPs, and safety.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain maintenance records, utility logs, inventory of critical spares, and equipment history.
  • Prepare monthly reports and KPIs for mechanical and utility performance.

Qualifications:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • 1020 years of experience in maintenance and utilities, preferably in chemical, metal, or battery recycling industries
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, utility infrastructure, and automation

Skills Required:

  • Leadership and team-building abilities
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability practices
  • Understanding of EHS standards related to hazardous waste handling
