Job Description

Role & responsibilities


  • Perform ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work on the facility: mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems
  • Maintain and operate all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, building management systems, and building repairs.
  • Perform facility inspections and report on conditions affecting operations
  • Monitor and supervise HVAC preventive Maintenance contracts
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Prepare and submit summary reports of conditions in buildings and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Review and understand equipment and methods of operation, BMS system, fire/life safety, and other systems
  • Comply with all safety procedures and requirements
  • Maintain compliance with City ordinances and codes
  • Support any after-hours building needs and activities as required.
  • Assist site facilities in developing comprehensive preventative maintenance plans for new and existing infrastructure and equipment
  • Act as point of contact for facilities and infrastructure leads at sites, responding to immediate needs related to equipment and facilities maintenance
  • Field requests for spare parts, new equipment, and tools. Identify part technical specifications, assist sourcing if needed
  • Work to develop and sustain a list of essential parts to stock at the site level to reduce and prevent equipment downtime
  • Provide technical support for site facilities leads on equipment troubleshooting, building maintenance, and new construction
  • Identify opportunities for cross-site collaboration, sharing of site technical expertise, and sharing of best practices
  • Provide technical guidance during the annual and multi-year budgeting process for facilities work including ongoing maintenance, equipment replacement, capital purchases, staffing levels, and construction/renovation projects
  • Develop facilities improvement project plans and work with local teams or external partners to implement
  • Work with site teams, external partners, and contractors to strengthen systems around project planning, implementation, and handover documentation of new construction project
  • Plans, designs, and supervises the construction of new, or existing, facilities in support of Company goals by utilizing available resources most efficiently and effectively as possible while complying with time and budget constraints. Is in alignment with business goals as determined by the manager and Senior Facility Engineer.
  • Oversees the planning, design, reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities
  • Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labour, materials, preparation, and other related costs.
  • Develops criteria and performance specifications for facilities and equipment required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of short-term and long-term maintenance planning.
  • Will be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and planning preventative maintenance work.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (mechanical, electrical, civil), facilities management,
  • construction management, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of relevant experience in facilities maintenance or related field
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing priorities to meet short and long-term goals
  • Service-oriented mindset and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well with a diverse team, honouring the concerns and priorities of staff in field sites
  • Electrical background or hands-on electrical experience
  • Experience coordinating external partners and networking for technical support.
  • Experience in managing external contractors
  • Project Management experience.
