Job Description:
We are looking for a Lead Design Engineer specializing in Substation Secondary Design to join our electrical engineering division. The role involves developing detailed designs and engineering drawings for substation protection, control, metering, and communication systems across various voltage levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and prepare secondary design deliverables such as control schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and cable schedules for AIS and GIS substations.
Design and review of protection and control systems, SCADA systems, interlocking, and automation schemes.
Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, IS standards and client-specific specifications.
Coordinate with primary design, civil, and project engineering teams.
Select and specify relays, CTs, VTs, panels, and other substation equipment.
Assist in technical proposal preparation, design reviews, and client presentations.
Support during factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and commissioning when required.
Mentor junior engineers and lead a small team on substation secondary projects.
Required Skills & Experience:
3-8 years of relevant experience in electrical substation secondary engineering/design.
Strong knowledge of protection and control schematics, wiring diagram development, and panel design.
Hands-on experience with design tools like AutoCAD, EPLAN, or MicroStation.
Understanding of relay coordination, substation automation, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus).
Familiarity with 66kV to 400kV substations (AIS/GIS).
Working knowledge of standards such as IEC, IEEE, IS, and utility specifications.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with international utility projects (US, UK, Middle East, Australia) is a plus.
Knowledge of ETAP, PSCAD, or DigSILENT for protection studies is desirable.
Exposure to digital substations and smart grid technologies is an advantage.
Certifications in substation design or protection systems are a plus.
