About the Role:

We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Assistant Manager - HR to manage payroll operations and ensure statutory and tax compliance for a large workforce of over 4,000 employees, in partnership with a third-party payroll vendor. This role involves handling the full spectrum of payroll processing, income tax and perquisite management (including ESOPs and car lease programs), and managing all related audits and vendor activities.





What will you do
    • Payroll Operations: Oversee monthly payroll for 4,000+ employees via an external payroll vendor.
    • Manage payroll inputs (attendance, LOPs, bonuses, increments, variable pay, etc.) and validate outputs (salary registers, payslips, bank .
    • Ensure accuracy in salary disbursement, full final settlements, and reimbursements.
    • Coordinate with finance teams for timely salary credit and journal entries.
    • Compliance Statutory: Ensure compliance with PF, ESI, PT, LWF, Gratuity, Income Tax, and other statutory obligations.
    • Prepare and reconcile monthly returns and challans (TDS, PF, etc.).
    • Monitor legal changes in tax laws and labor laws; implement necessary changes in payroll processes.
    • ESOP Equity-Based Compensation:Manage taxation related to ESOPs (e.g., perquisite valuation and TDS deduction at exercise).Ensure proper reporting of ESOPs in Form 16 and tax returns.
    • Car Lease Other Perquisites: Administer the car lease benefit program and manage vendor interactions for lease plans.Calculate and process perquisite values for car lease, accommodation, club memberships, etc.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant sections of the Income Tax Act for non-monetary perquisites.
    • Coordinate with the payroll vendor for correct taxation of all perquisites in monthly payroll.
    • Taxation Year-End Activities:Oversee investment declaration, proof verification, and tax computation for employees.Ensure timely issuance of Form 16, and reconciliation of TDS returns (Form 24Q).
    • Advise employees on tax-saving instruments, exemptions, and declarations.
    • Stay updated with changes in tax slabs, exemptions, and related circulars.
    • Vendor Stakeholder Management: Act as SPOC for payroll vendor; ensure adherence to defined SLAs and timely resolution of escalations.Conduct monthly reviews and audits of vendor deliverables and system configurations.
    • Liaise with internal stakeholders (HRBP, Finance, IT, Legal) for seamless payroll operations.
    • Audit, Reporting Governance: Prepare for internal/external/statutory audits; ensure documentation and compliance readiness.Maintain payroll MIS, dashboards, and compliance trackers for management review. Drive process automation and improvements in payroll and compliance functions
What you will need
    • Bachelors degree in Commerce, Finance, HR, or related field (MBA/PGDM preferred).
    • 5-8 years of experience in payroll, tax, and compliance management.
    • Proven track record of handling payroll for large employee bases (10,000+).
    • Prior experience working with payroll vendors (ADP, Allsec, Excelity, Ascent, etc.) is essential.
    • Strong understanding of ESOP taxation, perquisite valuation, and payroll-related provisions of the Income Tax Act.
    • Familiarity with any payroll/ HRMS systems is a plus
