Job Description
- As a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist in the food industry, your role is crucial in maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and regulatory compliance throughout the production processes. You will play a significant part in upholding product integrity, ensuring consumer safety, and meeting both internal and external quality standards. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting inspections and testing of raw materials, in-process production, and finished products to guarantee compliance with food safety and quality regulations. You will also be responsible for performing sensory analysis and laboratory tests to assess product quality accurately. Regulatory compliance is a key aspect of your role, where you must ensure adherence to local, state, and federal food safety regulations such as FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP, and FSMA. Staying informed about changes in food safety laws and overseeing audit preparations are essential tasks to maintain compliance and take corrective actions promptly. Monitoring production processes, documenting QA procedures, conducting root cause analysis for quality deviations, and implementing corrective and preventive actions are vital components of your daily tasks. Moreover, providing training to production staff on food safety standards, quality control procedures, and GMP practices is crucial to uphold quality standards. Investigating and resolving customer complaints related to product quality, identifying areas for continuous improvement in the QA process, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement enhancements are also part of your responsibilities. Your role may involve exposure to different temperatures, noise levels, and machinery in production areas, necessitating compliance with PPE protocols. To qualify for this position, a Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, you should have 2-3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance role within the food industry, along with knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, GMP, and regulatory standards. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role. While certifications such as HACCP Certification, SQF Practitioner or Lead Auditor Certification, and ISO 9001 or ISO 22000 training are preferred, they are not mandatory. Proficiency in using QA software and tools is advantageous.
