Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned and dynamic Machine Shop In-Charge with extensive experience in managing the end-to-end operations of a machine shop involved in the fabrication and manufacturing of material handling systems such as conveyors, cranes, hoists, lifts, and automated transport systems. The ideal candidate should be able to manage people, processes, and precision engineering output in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume production environment.


Exp - 10 to 30 years

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring adherence to production schedules, safety, and quality standards.
  • Hands-on leadership in machining processes: turning, milling, drilling, boring, grinding, and CNC operations.
  • Work closely with design, planning, and quality teams to ensure components meet technical specifications for material handling systems.
  • Optimize machine utilization, cycle times, tool life, and overall shop floor productivity.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles such as 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, TPM, etc.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance schedules are followed for both conventional and CNC machines.
  • Manage a skilled workforce including operators, programmers, and fitters; handle shift planning, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Coordinate with the purchase and stores team to ensure availability of raw materials, tools, and consumables.
  • Drive continuous improvement in process efficiency, cost reduction, and quality assurance.
  • Maintain production records, reports, and MIS data; monitor KPIs like OEE, rejection rate, downtime, etc.
  • Enforce adherence to safety protocols, statutory compliance, and ISO/AS standards.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of machine shop operations, including manual, semi-automatic, and CNC machines.
  • Experience in fabrication of material handling systems or heavy engineering products.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, cutting tools, jigs & fixtures, machining parameters.
  • Effective team leadership, shop floor discipline, and decision-making skills.
  • Exposure to ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and production documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of welding, assembly, and integration practices is an advantage.

Educational Qualification:

Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering or equivalent


Preferred Candidates:

  • Those with prior experience in crane systems, hoists, conveyors, lifts, or similar mechanical equipment.
  • Candidates from material handling equipment manufacturers, system integrators, or heavy engineering sectors.
