Working Peoples Charter (WPC) and Aajeevika Bureau seek an experienced, committed colleague to join them as a Tele Counsellors for the India Labour Line initiative that has been recently launched in Mumbai.
The India Labour Line is a phone-based service to provide information, counselling, distress support and emergency response to informal workers throughout India. It seeks to become a powerful medium available to all categories of waged and self-employed workers in the large sectors of construction, factories, urban services, farm work, street vending etc. The India Labour Line is being incubated by WPC and Aajeevika Bureau and is supported by a large response network of trade unions and civil society organisations working on labour issues across the country. Roles and Responsibilities
The Tele Counsellor will be handling calls on the India Labour Line to help provide information and counselling to informal sector workers regarding government schemes, benefits and work related disputes. More specifically, their role will entail the following:
- Answer calls coming to the India Labour Line, providing initial counselling to workers who are in distress.
- Documenting basic information related to the case.
- Issuing notices to employers and smooth handing over of cases to the appropriate state-level Worker Facilitation Centres.
- Following up on issues registered by workers and referring cases to concerned departments and NGO networks.
- Report writing, experience sharing and other documentation work that has been assigned.
Desired Skills & Experience
- The ideal candidate should have the willingness to attend calls continuously, the ability to counsel workers calmly in high stress situations and have good listening skills and patience in dealing with workers.
- The programme requires and expects that the Tele Counsellors will enhance their skills and competence by studying various laws, policies and schemes meant for workers, as well as other resources on labour issues.
- Basic computer skills for data updation and the other documentation purposes is mandatory.
Language proficiencies: We are looking for individuals who are fluent in Telugu language and familiarity with one additional language. Please note that ability to read and write basic English is mandatory.
Remuneration will be in the range of Rs. 2.5- 3 lakhs p.a and negotiable based on competence and experience. Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
