The Research Associate position within the School of Mathematics and Statistics involves undertaking collaborative and self-directed research on an ARC-funded Discovery Project focusing on High Dimensional Approximation, Learning, and Uncertainty. The primary goal of the project is to develop and implement innovative schemes for high-dimensional approximation that are reliable, accurate, efficient in handling numerous variables or uncertain parameters, and tailored to specific applications. Reporting to Professor Frances Kuo and Professor Ian Sloan, the Research Associate will work independently and as part of a team, conducting research in areas such as High Dimensional Approximation, Uncertainty Quantification, Deep Learning, and Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods. Responsibilities include contributing to scientific publications, coordinating research activities, engaging with industry partners, and participating in conferences and workshops relevant to the project. To be successful in this role, you should hold a PhD in Mathematics, preferably in computational mathematics or a related area. You must demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have knowledge in Quasi-Monte Carlo methods, finite element analysis, and/or machine learning. Proficiency in computer programming languages such as Matlab, C++, or Python is essential, along with a collaborative mindset, effective communication skills, and a commitment to UNSW's values and objectives.
